Butterfly Counts

COMING 2019 
The Pollinator Conservation Association conducts, hosts, or consults, on butterfly counts and site inventories. 

Summer 2019
During the summer of 2019 we will be rolling out our summer counts and events.

July 2018 Buffalo Outer Harbor/Times Beach Butterfly Count.   Completed
Come and learn with our experts about local butterflies and habitat.  Participate in our growing citizen science program designed to create a region inventory of butterflies, other native pollinators, and native plants.

When: Saturday July 21  11am-1pm
Where: Starting at Times Beach Nature Preserve on Buffalo's Outer Harbor
Registration Required (limited to 20)
$10 donation requested (bring cash to event)



    July 21 2018 (Saturday) Buffalo Outer Harbor/Times Beach Butterfly Count  Suggested event donation $10 per person (collected at site). Registration limited to 20 people.

    ​Equipment to bring- notebook, field glasses if you have, camera.

Citizen Science and Learning
The PCA holds events including butterfly counts, pollinator inventories, and habitat assessments.

You can participate by attending events, or counting on your own.

 Butterfly counts and simple observations help us to determine local and regional pollinator health, whhich helps us to develop appropriate pollinator conservation strategies.  We also use these events to help us all to get to know butterflies, other pollinators, and native plants.   We will help you to learn more about birds, dragonflies, native plants, and to observe and see the importance of biodiversity. Please enjoy your sightings, and feel free to submit photos and or observations to this website by using the contact form below.. If you would like us to help you establish a count, submit information on the contact form below.

July 4 Count 2017 Schedule (Completed)


When: Saturday July 1  9:00 am - noon  FINISHED/Rainout
Where: Start at Times Beach Nature Preserve Buffalo's Outer Harbor at the foot of Furhmann Blvd. Count will include Buffalo Outer Harbor including Bell Slip, and Tifft Nature Preserve

What to Bring                                                         July 4 Count Area

1. Notebook or paper and pen
2. Butterfly field guide if you have one
3. Camera, if you have one.
4. Come to learn and have fun, share this wonderful experience.
If you want to do your own count, cannot attend specific counts, use the form below to submit your findings.

In the "COMMENt BOX" Submit the following info:
1. Count compiler (Name)
2 Number of people in count party (names ok)
3. Count date and location (Be as specific as possible)
4. Aprox time of count
(example 2-4pm)
5. Weather conditions
example: Warm, sunny, brreezy
6.. Species counted including name and numbers
(example: Baltimore Checkerspot. 2 individuals together)
7 Any additional info that you deem relevant
(example: found on path along meadow forest edge)

Our July 4 Butterfly Count, will take place at various locations throughout the month of July. This count is registered with the North American Butterfly Association. The count has a 15 mile radius centered on Times Beach Nature Preserve
